Did you know that DSNY will begin collecting residential Christmas trees beginning Monday, January 6th, 2020 throughout Friday, January 17th, 2020? The Department of Sanitation collected more than 200,000 Christmas trees for “tree-cycling” after Christmas 2018. The collected trees will be chipped and mixed with leaves in order to be recycled into compost that will be used in New York City’s parks.

Those needing to get rid of mostly plastic and metal artificial Christmas trees should consider selling or donating them. Donation opportunities may be found at nyc.gov/donate. Otherwise if possible, take apart your tree to recycle the base and trunk (pole) with metal, glass, plastic and cartons. Remove all lights, ornaments and tinsel before placing at the curb.

Filco Carting Customers that wish to dispose of their Christmas trees should contact their sales representative for pricing. All organic or artificial trees must have all lights, ornaments & stands removed from the trees prior to being put out for collection.
