Filco Carting has partnered with Cypress Hills East New York Coalition to help give back to our local community.

During these unprecedented times, Filco Carting is fortunate to still be open for business. The same can not be said for many of the local businesses in East New York, Brooklyn. An area with many willing and able workers, who are currently out of work. We recently partnered with The C.H.E.N.Y. Coalition, to get directly involved with our local community.

The Cypress Hills East New York Coalition is a non-profit organization that fosters and maintains unity by designing, building and implementing Block Associations. The C.H.E.N.Y. Coalition is spearheaded by Mr. Alberto Ramos, organizing food drives every Friday.

Special thanks to our Joshua Eisenstein, and Christina Whelan for representing Filco Carting, and participating at the events each week.

June 6th, 2020

On Friday, June 5th, 2020 C.H.E.N.Y. Coalition and its partners provided food packages to over 250 members of the local community. Everyone who stands in line is handed a numbered attendance ticket. Food is only provided to those who have an attendance ticket. This helps prevent people from cutting the line.

Donations from organizations like the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, provide items like fresh eggs, potatoes, bread, milk & apple juice to our food Pantry. This week we were able to provide food packages containing; Perrier Juice Drink, milk, apple juice, bags of carrots, onions, bananas, plantains, celery, oranges & potatoes, eggs, bread, potato chips, granola bars & frozen pizzas. We’d like to thank Mr. James “the Iceman” Giustizia from Ice Cubes R Us for continuing to lend us use of his refrigerated trucks to help transport food.

Donations are not limited to monetary or food contributions, but time and energy are appreciated as well. Lisette from our partner, Filco Carting Corp. dedicated several hours helping set up the food pantry and help bundle food packages that will be delivered to our members who can not leave their house.

if you would like to make a donation or contribution please reach out to C.H.E.N.Y.’s facebook page and send a direct message. If you are a member of the local community and are unable to leave your house due to current COVID conditions, please reach out to us and see if you qualify for delivery.

Food packages are prepared Thursday night and Friday morning before the food pantry starts at 12:30 pm. Volunteers break down large bags of vegetables into smaller bags that will be a part of the food packages.

Additional food that is donated or purchased arrives in vans and trucks. C.H.E.N.Y. and its volunteers unload, unbox & hand out these items.

This week, those online received a food package including hotdogs, mustard, a bag of rice, and a bag of beans along with vegetables, fruit, a box of granola bars, and bags of chips.

Thank you to all our volunteers for their time and effort as we help feed those who are in need.
